The Committee of e-Banking Industry Heads (CeBIH) is to hold a forum on challenges and prospects of developing a functioning electronic payment market in Nigeria.

CeBIH comprises of all heads of e-business/e-channels and cards services of all the 21 banks in Nigeria.

The conference is themed "Developing a market structure that works: Challenges and Prospects for the Nigerian Payment System."

Chuma Ezirim, chairman, CeBIH  said the organisation was committed to development of an efficient payment system in Nigeria.

"We believe a functioning and efficient electronic payment system is not a myth or impossibility. It is something that has been achieved in other markets. We are therefore, inviting all stakeholders, including experts from outside the country to appraise our performance so far as an industry and agree on the structure that would enable us achieve our full potentials in the midst of various challenges," he said.

The conference will be declared open by Ade Shonubi, managing director of Nigeria Interbank Settlement System (NIBSS) who will also deliver the keynote address.

It will also feature a keynote speech by Dipo Fatokun, director, Banking and Payments System, CBN.

Electronic payment experts scheduled to speak at the conference include; Pedro Hipolito (general manager, SIBS International, Libson, Portugal); Martin Holloway (VP, Sales Africa & Middle East NEMEA, VeriFone U.K); Agada Apochi (managing director, Unified Payments System Limited); Amit Wohl (EMEA Channel Manager, Trusteer, Boston, USA).

Papers to be presented include; Positioning PoS at the Merchant in a Cashless environment; Innovation in Payment Systems through Shared Services; and Protecting Online and Mobile Banking from Financial Malware and Fraud.
