Dr. Olu Agunloye, executive vice chairman, National e-Government Strategies (Negst) has said that electronic Local Government Area (e-LGA) system will establish a control platform where local government duties and activities will be harmonized for effective management, prudent use of resources, capacity building and good governance, for the actualization of vision 2020.
He stated this at e-LGA summit held in Abuja, saying that application of ICT in local government will make the administrative system more effective and closer to the people by making information available to them at their fingertips.
Agunloye said that the one-stop shop online government process will change the psychology of the rural population, explaining that the Federal Government embarked on the use of structured ICT and e-government strategies to make public services more responsible and efficient in analysis and gathering of data.
In his welcome address, Dr. Alhassan Bako Zaku, minister of Science and Technology, represented by Prof. Cleopas Angaye, director general, National Information Technology Development Agency (Nitda), said that the program is aimed at transforming the nation’s economy by the year 2020, and to enhance good governance.
According to him, e-LGA is significant to people at the grass root level as it will provide them with tools for collaboration and synergies with both the State and the Federal Government.
He commended the stakeholders of e-LGA, while urging them to speed up Information Technology at the grassroots in other to meet the 2020 target.
Alhaji Mahmud Yayale Ahmed, secretary to the federal government said that the e-LGA summit is designed for all the local governments to be e-Government compliant, and that government has taken steps to support e-government policy through Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS), e-registration for teachers and e-passport.
He added that the government will provide an enabling environment and infrastructure to support IT at all levels and also provide other essential services to enhance technological development for Vision 2020.
