el-Rufai’s Sacrilegious Tweet Fans Disunity

Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, former minister, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and acclaimed chatterbox has tweeted himself into trouble after he shared dirty joke about Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene.

His tweet on Sunday stated, “@zebbook: If Jesus criticises Jonathan’s govt, Maku/Abati/Okupe will say he slept with Mary Magdalene.”….LWKMD…..”

It was not certain if that was a sarcasm intended to defend Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili, former Education minister after she came under attack by President Jonathan media team for accusing this administration and that of the late Yar’dua government of wasteful spending.

But some Christians accused Nasir el-Rufai of deliberately ensuring that the delicate spin towards unity never materializes.

They said like some other northern elites, that el-Rufai was employing religion as a weapon to ruin his people’s progress.

Pastor Paul Onwumbiko said that “ the tweet was deliberate, el-Rufai knew exactly what he was doing, he wanted to cause riot in the south, just any avenue to make Nigeria unsafe”

Some well meaning Muslims have also joined the lambast of the former minister and said his statement was blasphemous.

el-Rufai, in an apparent effort to make his irreverent comment look like a joke, re-twitted: “Laugh wan kill me die (LWKMD),” this did not douse the anger as some described his tweet as heresy on Christendom.

Hajia Mohammed wrote on Facebook: “He is insane for insulting the prophet. He is not a true Muslim, for no true worshipper will say this. Some people say no God and he is one of them.”
