Emerging Markets Payments (EMP), a leading African and Middle Eastern payments company, has announced the appointment of Tunde Coker as its Regional Head of West Africa.

"EMP's Bank Processing division provides card personalization, card hosting, card processing and ATM and POS driving services to 135 banks across the MENA region.

50 of these are in West Africa, which highlights the importance of this appointment," said Hoda Shoukry, EMP Bank Processing Division's CEO.

Tunde is the former group chief information officer for Access Bank, one of Nigeria's leading banks.

During his tenure, Access Bank improved its ranking from number 11 to a top 4 bank. Tunde was responsible for integrating Intercontinental Bank's systems with Access Bank.

Prior to Access Bank, Tunde was roup IT director for the UK Ministry of Justice, Group Applications Director for BP International and Director of Digital Services for Egg Bank in the UK.

"The West Africa region has the potential to be one of the fastest growing regions in the world for electronic payments given the current low penetration of formal financial services," stated Hoda Shoukry.

"Tunde will be key to spearheading EMP's drive to provide the region with world-class technology and products, given his outstanding record in the banking sector both in West Africa and the UK, coupled with his experience in banking systems,” continued Hoda Shoukry.

Tunde has a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Glamorgan University and an MSc from Cranfield Institute of Technology.

Emerging Markets Payments (EMP) covers all elements of the payments value chain, from issuing, acquiring and switching through to card procurement and personalization.

It also covers all the major channels, being card, mobile and Internet. EMP is currently partner to over 130 banks and 30,000 retailers across 45 countries in MEA

The company also offers a full range of eGovernment solutions. EMP offices are located in Cairo, Egypt; Amman, Jordan; Lagos, Nigeria; Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa.
