Professor Edwin Mark, renowned music connoisseur and a former university don has an extravagantly enthusiastic appraisal of Yudala, the latest single by Iyanya, the superstar recording artiste.
Mark said that the song Yudala stands out for its clear message and discernible lyrics which every Nigerian can relate to.
Yudala has enjoyed rave reviews from music lovers since its release late last week.
According to Mark, Yudala appeals to the consciousness of every Nigerian who listens to it as it projects the renewed optimism in the new socio-economic and political dispensation.
While lauding the use of local languages such as Ibo, Yoruba and Hausa in the song, Mark also hailed the message in the music which, according to him, radically differentiates the song from its contemporaries.
“Although our entertainment industry is booming, I must confess that I have hardly being impressed by the output of most of our young artistes. What I see is basically content poverty in most releases. That is why this song Yudala immediately caught my attention when I first listened to it.
“Apart from the use of the three major languages, the Yudala song is a clear message for a new Nigeria. My attention was drawn to the contribution by one of the artistes – the part delivered in Yoruba where the person speaks of ‘ilo si waju’ which means progress. Also, the song preaches mutual respect, offers you best wishes and peace of mind as well as prosperity on top of it all. It is a song everyone can relate to as it represents a refreshingly unique offering from the regular, mundane stuff we are used to.”
Led by Made Men Music Group (MMMG) honcho, Iyanya and featuring a quartet of lyrically compatible artistes including Selebobo, Tekno, Baci and Mystro; Yudala is the Cross River-born artiste’s latest effort and represents a multiplicity of universally accepted values such as respect, peace of mind, best wishes and prosperity.
Born Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, Iyanya captured the imaginations of an entertainment-crazy populace when he won the 2008 MTN Project Fame West Africa as well as for his subsequent massive effort Kukere.
The soft-spoken artiste is the co-owner of Made Men Music Group, a record label which is home to artistes such as Tekno, Emma Nyra, Selebobo and Baci.
He released his debut studio album My Story in 2011 which was supported by the singles No Time and Love Truly.
Desire, his second studio album, contained the singles Kukere, Your Waist, Flavour, Sexy Mama and Jombolo. He also won the artiste of the year award at the 2013 edition of the Headies.
