The city of Benin turned blue when the top management staff of Multi-Links Telkom paid the Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Oba of Benin, Oba Ereduiwa, a courtesy visit with a view to launching the existence of the network service in Benin.
Multi-Links Telekom, a CDMA based telecommunications service provider, has its network service in about 22 cities and communities in which Benin City became a part of on Monday, 23rd of June 2008.
During the visit, Mr. Justin Ramaiya, chief executive officer, Multi-Links expressed pleasure in paying homage to the royal father, saying ‘coming to Benin is important to us. The importance we attach to this city is why I am personally here to see things for myself and pay this courtesy visit to Royal Majesty, the Oba of Benin’.
The Oba on his part demands to know why the name of the company is "Multi-Links. In response, Ramaiya, said that the company has many services in one, they do not only offer voice call services but data services as they have very high speed band wave for internet connection.
Ramaiya therefore assured the Oba that Multi-Links will offer the best network based on their robust infrastructure. He also said in his speech that ‘as a company that loves to improve the quality of lives in communities where it operates, Multi-Links Telkom will be giving out some phones to some youths to enable them earn income from offering tele-services’.
On behalf of the Oba, Chief A. Edebiri, the Esogbon of Benin prayed for the brand to succeed in the city. After his prayer, the Esogbon asked the company how socially responsible they’ll be to the Benin society, emphatically saying that so many companies had come to Benin to do business but go away with the profit without contributing to the progress of the community.
Responding on behalf of Multi-Links, Mr. Tayo Ekundayo, corporate affairs manager, explained that their parent company, Telkom South Afriva is socially responsible in South Africa; and that they have come to impact on the Nigerian communities as well.
In the course of the event, the CEO of Multi-Links Telkom presented the Oba with a phone pack; while the Oba, in turn, gave an art craft in shape of a tray.
However, the Multi-Links team proceeded to the Edo State Skills Acquisition centre from the Oba’s Palace , to be part of the 7th graduation ceremony of the centre in which the first lady of Edo State, Lady Usseih Usonbor; the deputy Governor of the state, and the commissioner of women affairs, Barrister Sabirak Kassim Muhomodu were present.
Mr. Justin also presented the three dignitaries earlier mentioned a Multi-Links gift packs and 50 Multi-Links phones to the grandaunts. He promised that as time goes on, Multi-Links will provide Laptop for the center to ease learning process.
