Ericsson Sponsors e-Health /Telemedicine Conference

World's leading provider of technology and services to telecom operators and leader in 2G, 3G and 4G mobile technologies, Ericsson is lending its weight behind the 4th eHealth and telemedicine conference billed to take place on the 17th & 18th of September 2009 at the Victoria Crown Plaza, Lagos .
The Conference / Exhibition in its fourth year will be exploring the much that has been done in Nigeria and its environs on telemedicine. It will also look at solutions, lessons learnt and the core challenge of implementing ehealth polices applications and building a foundation in Nigeria. Not to mention the offering of practical frameworks for implementing what is to be done. It will offer networking opportunities for health and ICT professionals and explore new global trends, report of new policies in the area and get governmental response.
Dr Olajide Adebola, president, Society for Telemedicine Nigeria said “This year’s event is our fourth attempt to highlight to the public the import and impact e-Health can have in improving our health, contributing to the economy and helping to fulfil the Millennium development goals (MDGs)” Telemedicine is an enabler which will help protect privacy and shorted communication times between the doctor and the patient.
Perhaps an equally interesting issue is how the range of objectives of this event ties into the government’s vision 2020 program. This goes to explain the level of support the event is gaining from the Nigerian government which Prof Femi Osatimehin, minister of health, will declare open and support from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). Other dignitaries who have confirmed attendance at the event include Dr Patricia Mechael, the mHealth and telemedicine advisor to the Millennium Village Projects (MVPs) based at the Earth Institute of the Colombia University, New York. She has field experience in over 20 countries, with a special focus on Africa.
There is also Leonid Angrouchao, Professor of Telecommunications at the International University Geneva where he doubles as the rapporteur to the telemedicine study group (Group D) of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) as well as Professor Yunkap Kwankam former head of the ehealth unit at the World Health Organization (WHO) HQ in Geneva and currently the executive director of International Society for Telemedicine & eHealth (ISFTH) which is the parent body for the Nigerian Society.
This year’s event will be having the privilege of sharing the expertise and experience of Prof Christoph Meinel; CEO Hasso Plattner Institute University of Potsdam in Germany and our very own Prof Egondu Rosemary Onyejekwe CEO the Health Map Project and Rose-Ego center for health informatics and more.
