Ericsson and Managed Services
Ericsson has the telecom industry's most comprehensive managed services offering. It consists of four segments; Operations, Field maintenance, Operational readiness and Shared solutions.
Telecom Operators Settling for Managed Services
Operators need to focus more on business and customer needs and less on running the technology. Through different business models and service solutions for managed services, we meet the different needs and share the risk with the customer. The idea is to delegate non-core activities to specialized companies like Ericsson for whom these activities are core business.
Operators globally are looking to improve effectiveness. Ericsson is a market leader in telecommunications services with extensive experience in advising and supporting operators to secure network quality, revenue enhancement and improved cost efficiency. Ericsson is anticipating the needs of these companies by offering flexible and creative solutions for the rollout of new and existing services to maximize profits and minimize initial capital investments for the operators.
How Expensive is t for Operators
Saving of typically 20% can be achieved in network operations when Ericsson takes care of the day-to-day operations of a customer’s network. The increase in operational efficiency is achieved through economies of scale, resource utilization and best practice process utilization.
Number of Operators in Nigeria have Shown Interest in Managed Services
We cannot comment on ongoing negotiations. As the market leader within managed services, we are of course discussing this option with our customers globally.
How Many Other Operators around the World are You Providing this Service
We operate networks supporting more than 275 million subscribers. We have more than 300 managed services contracts, of which more than 100 are made public. We deliver Managed Services in more than 100 countries. We have the most experience in the telecommunications industry after delivering managed services for more than 15 years.
Future of Managed services in Nigeria
We do not provide any forecast regarding the market. But we do see a growing interest from operators in all regions, on all markets. And in times of financial turmoil, such as now, there is an increased interest in cost efficiencies, which we can of course help the operator address.
Major Areas of Telecoms Business that could be Taken Care of by Managed Services
It depends what you mean by "telecoms business", but typically; all the service segments are flexible in terms of scope and set up and are adapted to the customer’s needs. It includes activities such as designing, building, operating and managing day-to-day operations for a part of or the entire network of a customer. You can also break managed services down from a network perspective: Typically in an operator’s network, we have the radio access network, the core network, the transport network, the service network and the operator support system and the business support system. You could either choose to let a vendor take responsibility for all activities within one network or for a specific activity across all networks. Or customers can choose to hand over responsibility for all activities across all networks.
How Managed Services Reduce Cost of Operations
Saving of typically 20% can be achieved in network operations when Ericsson takes care of the day-to-day operations of a customer’s network. The increase in operational efficiency is achieved through economies of scale, resource utilization and best practice process utilization
Managed Service and savings for the Telecom industry
We don't have this kind of number. And again, Managed services is not only about reducing cost (alone), but also about creating value for the customer, which means the customer would benefit from increased revenues in addition to lower cost. Depending on the scope of the managed services contract, of course.
Benefits to the Operators and the Industry in General
Saving of typically 20% can be achieved in network operations when Ericsson takes care of the day-to-day operations of a customer’s network. The increase in operational efficiency is achieved through economies of scale, resource utilization and best practice process utilization.
Other Far-reaching Implications for the Economy
We see an increased interest in network sharing, which would reduce the total carbon footprint. As well as sustainable energy solutions (green aspects) in our networks, especially off-grid.
The Major Managed Services Companies in the Nigerian Environment
You will have to judge but we have been adjudged to be the leading company globally and by extension locally. Ericsson is the industry leader in managed services. An independent global perception study with operators confirms Ericsson’s #1 position. Today, Ericsson is managing networks that together serve over 275 million subscribers globally.  We have more than 15 years of experience in managing multi-vendor, multi-technology networks for operators globally. Ericsson is a market leader in telecommunications services with extensive experience in advising and supporting operators to secure network quality, revenue enhancement and improved cost-efficiency.
