Etisalat Nigeria, upwardly mobile telecom operator is strengthening itself for massive deployment of its robust network across the nation in the coming weeks and months, according to Mr. Steven Evans, chief executive officer of the company.

To this end, the telecom operator is embarking on a systematic increase in its workforce

The company also reiterated its commitment to extensively covering over 80 per cent of the country by 2010.

Evans spoke at a dinner in honour of Mr. Oladamoye Oyesiku, the company’s pioneer chief technical officer, who was leaving the telecoms giant to pursue other interests.

According to him, “We recognize and appreciate the contribution of Mr. Oyesiku to the success of our business in Nigeria and this dinner is in recognition of the significant contribution he has made towards the rollout of our services across Nigeria. I would like to say how much I have enjoyed working with Damoye in my short time here, and also to say how disappointed I am that he has decided to leave.”

Sources close to the company confirmed that the UAE based company has been working round the clock in preparation for further aggressive expansion of its network across the nation in the coming months. It has also stepped up its employment process to accommodate, sustain and enrich the present work force in readiness for the projected expansion of its network across the nation.

Etisalat formally launched its commercial services in October 2008 to its prospective customers whose interest in the new telecoms company was heightened with the 0809uchoose campaign. The company then began full commercial operations with a unique 3-in-1 package that offered prospective subscribers on the network the opportunity to customize their phone numbers to reflect their lifestyles with numbers special to them. It also offered them free credit monthly for life.

This first-of-its-kind package instantly positioned Etisalat as a network that is not only innovative but one that appreciates and celebrates its customers’ best moments and memories.

Etisalat Nigeria launched commercial operations in Nigeria with its easy starter package. Apart from the regular features available on all SIMs at the moment, Etisalat easy starter also has unique features such as Receiver Pays which is a call collect service; Missed Call Notification which allows the subscriber know who called them whenever they are not available; Homezone which allows the subscriber to make cheaper calls at any location of their choice and Recharge Others, a direct airtime transfer service. These unique features are all firsts in the telecommunications industry in Nigeria and set the latest entrant into the GSM market clearly apart right from launch.
