FedEx, the global network of companies that share a rich heritage of innovation and industry leadership has said that it has successfully used technology to eliminate the incidence of mail dumping in the company.
The company was reacting to the growing charge of mail dumping against some courier operators in Nigeria.
CommunicationsWeek
gathered that the courier companies’ patrons have often accused operators of dumping parcels or mails.
This phenomenon which was prevalent in most of these companies years ago is surprisingly not a thing of the past as it is still experienced in some of them.
A source at FedEx said that the issue is non-existent in their establishment because at every point in time, the shipper knows the location of his mail or parcel.
According to the source ‘We use a software package known as courier complete which enables customers to trace their shipments by keying in their numbers on the computer and actually knowing their locations’.
‘On an instance where a shipment’s recipient cannot be located either because there has been a change in address or simply because he cannot be located in person, the FedEx delivery officer would visit the same location two more times to ensure that the shipment finds the right destination. If at the end of the day the mail is still hanging, it is returned to the shipper with a note and evidence of those visits’, he added.
