FG Inaugurates Science, Technology Fund Committee
The federal government has inaugurated a seven-man committee for the establishment of Science and Technology Development Fund (STDF) in Abuja ,.
The committee, which was inaugurated by Ambassador Babagana Kingibe, secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has, as members, Senator Iya Abubakar, Professor Abiodun Frances Oluwole and Dr. U.B. Bindir.
Other members of the committee include Dr. O.P. Obande, Engr. R.D. Abubakar and Mallam Muhammed Bukar, secretary to the committee.
The committee, chaired by Professor Oluwafeyisola Adegoke, is expexted to advise government and facilitate the establishment of STDF, especially the joint management and administration of the Fund.
Ambassador Kingibe, while addressing members of the committee, said President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, has directed the board of the Nigeria National Merit Award (NNMA), the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology and other relevant ministries to work as a team for the successful take-off and administration of the proposed STDF.
The terms of reference of the committee include determining the desirability or otherwise of a legal framework to back up the Fund and advise government whether there is need to review the existing NNMA Act or enact a new law for the Fund.
