Federal Government has set December 2015 target for commencement of operation a world class network operating centre in Abuja.
Nigeria CommunicationsWeek gathered that the project was triggered by government’s quest for a harmonized system in designing websites, registering domain names and creating e-mail addresses for government activities.
The project will ensure sustainability of the platform, which is the essence of a data center.
In a progress report released by the Federal Ministry of Communication Technology and described as “a tip of the iceberg”, by Mrs. Omobola Johnson, the Minister, Nigeria CommunicationsWeek learnt the data center that will well equipped, will also be staffed round the clock.
The report reads: “It s being built with uncompromising standards for security, power supply, and environmental controls.
“It will be designed to offer enterprise data lasting services with particular focus on connectivity, redundancy and resilience. There are additional data centers currently under development as part of the nationwide infrastructure roll out plan”.
The report also highlighted government’s intention to track citizens engagements in what services are been accessed mostly online and also host data generated from online engagements.
The plan is part of promoting the “Whole of Government” approach in the information age.
