Galaxy Backbone Better Placed for e-Gov Initiatives –Akpan

Dr. Henry Akpan, new permanent secretary, ministry of Communication Technology, has described Galaxy Backbone Ltd as being well positioned to support the e-government initiatives of the federal government.

Dr. Akpan made the assertion in Abuja during his tour of Galaxy facilities as part of his familiarisation tour of parastatals and organisations under the supervision of the ministry.

He expressed the confidence that the e-government initiatives of the ministry of Communication Technology were in excellent hands with the quality of facilities and professionals that Galaxy parades in its operations.

According to him, the present administration’s committed focus on Information and Communications Technology as one of the key drivers of the Nigerian economy is a positive indication that the country will soon become a competitive and knowledge driven society.

While welcoming the Permanent Secretary and his team to the company, Gerald Ilukwe, managing director/chief executive officer, Galaxy Backbone Ltd said that since commencing operations in 2008, Galaxy has leveraged its mandate to build a common services platform consisting of extensive technology infrastructure, including in-country and offshore VSAT hubs, a datacenter, Federal Capital metro fiber backbone and multiple redundant internet gateways.

He informed Dr. Akpan that Galaxy is primed to impact government ecosystem through the delivery of various e-government services which include government common network, government wide messaging and collaboration, single window portal, automation of cabinet secretariat operations through the expansion of its data center storage capacity, the enhancement of network security, the use of virtualized server and storage infrastructure and enhanced network infrastructure for its WANs, metro-fibre and federal secretariat LANs.

Ilukwe used the opportunity to commend the leadership of the Ministry of Communication Technology for the soon to be launched Government Service Portal being hosted by Galaxy.
