Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) recently unveiled the nominees for the 2017 .ng Awards and Galaxy Backbone Ltd, the leading public sector ICT infrastructure and services provider, makes the list in two categories.

Galaxy Backbone Ltd is a shared ICT Infrastructure and services provider for all Federal Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

The company has the mandate to build and operate a Nationwide Broadband network that provides IP-based Connectivity services to all Federal Government MDAs and institutions. Galaxy is focused on providing ICT infrastructure, applications and services to all Federal Government MDAs and institutions which includes but not limited to managing Government Data Centers and databases, Directory Services, National Information Repositories, IP-telephony and other solutions/services delivered on the shared platform.

It is in this regard that NIRA has also invited the general public to vote for their preferred choice via the link: http://nira.org.ng/voting/vote.php.

Winners for each category will be determined through online voting and decisions from an array of competent Award Jury selected based on their relevance and expertise. The awards voting process which kick starts from February 20th, 2017, will end on the April 3rd, 2017 with a glamorous awards gala scheduled to take place on Friday, 21st April, 2017.

In a letter to Galaxy Backbone Ltd, NiRA congratulated all the nominees for the 2017 .ng Awards and wish all the best.

In 2016, Galaxy won two awards namely the Best Hosting Company and Best Domain Name Registrar.

The .ng Awards celebrates the achievements and innovation of Nigerian Internet initiatives. The awards aim to showcase Nigerian businesses, individuals, charity, public and private sector organizations which help to make the Internet a more secure, open, accessible and rewarding experience for all.

The Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) believes in the power of the Internet and are determined that the .ng domain name space has a positive impact on the lives of Internet users. NiRA acknowledges the great work being done out there and desire the public to know about it, talk about it, engage with it and put it into the spotlight.

The nominees for .ng Company of the Year category are Edubridge Consultants Limited, Etisalat, Galaxy Backbone, Google, Hotels.ng, Jumia, Ringier Media Nigeria Ltd and Wefix. This award is presented to the company or organization that has demonstrated excellence in business innovation, online user experience and commitment to the Nigeria Internet community while embracing sound business practices.

While nominees for Best Local Hosting Company category include Galaxy Backbone, Garanntor Hosting Limited,  MTN Business, Spectranet, and Web4africa Nigeria.

The award aims to continuously encourage the growth of local website hosting companies, in Nigeria and is presented to the best local hosting company in Nigeria.
