Gionee Unveils ‘X1s’ Mid-Range Smartphone in Nigeria, Readies For Black Friday

Gionee has declared her readiness to fete Nigerian customers during the coming Black Friday, promising freebies upon purchase of the newly launched X1s smartphone.

Deborah Oluseyi Joshua, a Nigeria based English singer-songwriter, recording artist, performer, and record producer, popularly known as Seyi Shay, the face and brand ambassador of Gionee Nigeria was on ground to the admiration of fans and guests at the Murtala Muhammad Airport (MMA2), Lagos, venue of the unveiling.

Gionee X1s smartphone comes with a 5.20-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 720 pixels by 1280 pixels.

The Gionee X1s is powered by 1.5GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6737T processor and it comes with 3GB of RAM.

The phone packs 16GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 256GB via a microSD card. As far as the cameras are concerned, the Gionee X1s packs a 13-megapixel primary camera on the rear and a 16-megapixel front shooter for selfies.

The Gionee X1s runs Android 7.0 and is powered by a 4000mAh non removable battery. It measures 150.40 x 73.50 x 8.80 (height x width x thickness) and weigh 166.00 grams.

The Gionee X1s is a dual SIM (GSM and GSM) smartphone that accepts Micro-SIM and Micro-SIM. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, USB OTG, FM, 3G and 4G (with support for Band 40 used by some LTE networks in India). Sensors on the phone include Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, Ambient light sensor and Gyroscope.

According to him, in the last six years of operations in the Nigerian market, Gionee has been known for advanced technology accompanied with enhanced selfie + battery capabilities.

On his part, Somoye Habeeb, marketing director, Gionee Nigeria, said, “We have received a good response for A1 and the aim with the X1s series is to establish a stronger connect with the younger audience. And we have partnered with the best in the market to ensure even distribution.

“For after-sales, I want to tell you that any smartphone brand where you usually have long queues of people waiting to repair their phones, kindly leave there. If not, soon, you will join in the queue. For Gionee, our phones are known for durability and because we know what we are offering the market, our warranty covers screen for even 15 months. We have partnered with Jumia (online) and Slot (offline) with other 60 outlets scattered across the country. We have technicians working with our dealers across the States of the Federation.”

Meanwhile, Seyi Shay, the brand ambassador urged smartphone lovers in Nigeria “to patronize the brand which has endeared itself to the hearts of the people due to the sleek and smart nature of the technology they have adopted in producing the phone.

Available in two colors – black and gold – the Gionee X1s will be available across all Slot retail stores in Nigeria.

China-based Gionee was established in 2002. Besides Nigeria, the brand also has presence in countries such as India, Vietnam, Taiwan, Myanmar, Thailand and the Middle East.

Gionee is a Chinese company with a strong offline retail presence in Nigeria; the company has launched several Android smartphones in the low- and mid-end segments.
