Glo Campus Storm Lights Up UNN

Because of its remote location, about one hour away from the state capital of Enugu, Nsukka town is not a frequent destination for entertainment shows. This explains the excitement of students of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, last weekend when the Glo Campus Storm was held in the school.

The Ekpo Convention Centre which hosted the event was filled to the brim with students and other members of the university community, while the artistes lined up by Globacom to entertain guests ensured that it was a show whose memory would linger for a long time to come.

It began with a dancing competition which saw many of the students exhibiting their dance skills as they moved and wriggled to the beats from DJ Neptune. Second year student of Political Science, Ibekwe Chinedu,came out tops, while Ugochukwu Victoria of the Department of Theatre arts was runner-up. Chubuike David Ejiofor of the Department of Agric Economics finished third.

The excitement heightened when up-and-coming artistes on campus took to the stage to showcase their talent. Those who performed included Mandy, Chido Keys, Kris Jay , Sinopizi, Zee Rawkpokpo, Kelwizz, Mareez and Wills. They all received huge rounds of applause from the crowd who were deeply impressed by the artistry exhibited by the budding performers.

Hot on their heels were the main acts of the night, with Korede Bello of God Win fame kicking off their performance. His superb delivery of his hit tracks, including Mungo Park, Ada Ada, Baby Romantic and God Win, elicited huge enthusiasm from the audiencesome of whom he showered with cash gifts. Next on the stage was hip-hop singer,Runtown, who performed Kampala, E Don Hamma, Walahi, De Boi and Bend Down Pause.But it was the song Show me the receipt which really got the audience rocking on their feet. 

Then followed the big masquerade of the night, the 'Nabania' singer, Flavour, whodelivered a scintillating performance that proved a befitting way to cap what was a memorable night of entertainment. From the Professor Johnbull  soundtrack, 'Erudite Professor’,  to his highly popular ‘Waka Waka’ and ‘Adamma’ songs, Flavour left the audience gasping for more. 

As promised by Globacom, 10 students of the university who contested for the “Glo Campus Data Dude” and the “Glo Campus Data  Diva”pageants went home with cash prizes ranging from N50,000 to N100,000. They will also participate in the grand finale to fight for a scholarship prize worth N1million.

At the end of the beauty pageant, Enebia Valentine was crowned “Glo Campus Data Dude” to win a cash prize of N100,000, whileIfediora Chimdindu won “Glo Campus Data Diva” and also went home with N100,000cash prize. Four male and four femalestudents who finished runners-up won N50, 000 each.

Globacom's Head of Operations, South-South, Mr. Enekwachi Aja, had told guests at the beginning of the event that the show was organised "to reward the youth segment of our teeming subscriber base and to encourage them to tap into the world of opportunities available for them to win scholarship worth N1 million by using the Glo Campus Booster Data services."

Glo Campus Storm moves to Abia State University, Uturu, next Friday, November 18.
