Globacom’s customers who subscribe to Glo M-Paper, a mobile newspaper application, otherwise known as Glo Mobile Newspaper, have expressed satisfaction with the quality of delivery of the service. The subscribers said the service has enabled them to read Nigerian newspapers at their convenience, anytime, anywhere.
The subscribers described the Value Added Service in glowing terms, asserting that “it stands out as a very convenient and useful information tool, making life easier for users.”
One of the subscribers to the service, Zinne Amaka said that M-paper is meeting one of her social needs. “This service is giving me fulfillment; I can read all my favourite news on one spot”, she said.
Another user, Aife Agboifo, praised Globacom for its avant-garde initiatives: “Globacom is always ahead of its competitors; Glo M-paper is a unique service that is rich in its content and innovativeness".
Mr. Ndubueze Obialor said that he is interested in the service because it keeps him up-to-date on current information about the world. Obialor gets his news from Nation newspaper through his mobile phone.
In the same vein, Biodun Durojaiye gave more details as to what makes the service unique.
“The service is superb and cheap, very reliable and I can pick my choice of newspapers,” he said.
For Bernard Atonsa, “Glo M- paper is the best service I have ever subscribed to, it helps me stay current and get updated news.”
Speaking to journalists recently, Adeniyi Olukoya, Globacom’s marketing coordinator, said the company launched the mobile newspaper to offer its subscribers major Nigerian and international news, hot and fresh on their mobile phones anywhere they are in the country.
With this service, mobile phone users who subscribe to service on the Glo network can access news as it is happening while on the go by getting news alerts via SMS.
According to Olukoya, to subscribe to the service, all one needs to do is to have a basic handset with Glo Mobile’s network connection, dial the short code*335# and select the newspaper of his or her choice among the ones in service.
“As soon as the pre-paid customer confirms his subscription, the relevant charge will be deducted from the current balance, while a postpaid customer will have the charges added to his or her monthly bill," Olukoya explained.
He added that the service costs only N50 per week. Users could also change their newspaper category as many times as they wish, free-of-charge.
Globacom stressed that all categories of subscribers on both the prepaid and postpaid platforms could access the service and is subscribers do not need any GPRS connectivity to enjoy the service. Glo M-Paper is also open to any brand or model of handset.
The seamless access to the service, Olukoya explained, is a way to ensure that Nigerians "remain current about the happenings around them anywhere, anytime."
