Globacom Limited has partnered with the Dr. Olusegun Mimiko-led government of Ondo State to enhance efficiency and productivity among workers in the state by providing an initial 5,000 post-paid lines to the state civil servants.
This deal would enable Globacom to network the affected telephone lines into a Closed User Group (CUG) under which workers would call one another at no cost while calls made outside the group would be substantially subsidized.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Akure, Mohammed Jameel, the group chief operating officer of Globacom, said the package would help to close the communication gap within the civil service as well as reduce turnaround time drastically.
He said the CUG is a unique value-added service aimed at providing customized solutions in accordance with the needs of the corporate clientele adding that Globacom was determined to put smiles on the faces of Nigerians by economically empowering them.
Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, governor of Ondo State, said in a keynote address that  his administration’s vision is to achieve people-driven development, ensure qualitative and affordable public service delivery, reduce corruption and unnecessary red tape with commitment to justice, equity, transparency and accountability’
According to him, the CUG programme is in fulfillment of the state government conceptualisation of robust and state-of-the art ICT programme for the state. He added that the largesse had been extended to all pregnant women in Ifedore Local Government area of the state in order to avail them 24-hour access to medical facilities and personnel.
Globacom also seized the opportunity to give 1000 branded free crash helmets to motorcycle riders in the state to stem the tide of death and disability brought about by accidents on motorcycles.
