In continuation of its commitment to making telephony services more accessible to Nigerians, Africa’s fastest growing telecommunications network, Globacom, has rolled out its services in 96 towns and villages, mainly in rural areas of the country.
The strategic roll out described as unprecedented in the history of rural telephony in Nigeria, was spread among 23 states of the federation.
A statement issued in Lagos by the telecommunications giant and endorsed by its Mr. Okon Iyanam, executive director, Marketing Communications, said that the company would ensure that all the nooks and crannies of the federation were provided with the quality network services of the company.
The statement added that rural telephony was not alien to Globacom, as the company at inception in 2004, rolled out its services in major cities and villages simultaneously, all in a bid to ensure that ownership of a telephone was no longer seen as a status symbol.
In the new roll out implementation, towns such as Ogbogoro, Okogbe, Niyi, Orkaki, Odiabide, Uvpatabo in Rivers State, Orhuwhorhu, Okwagbe, Ovierie – Ovu and Utagbe-Uno in Delta, Kwana – Madana, Jigawa State, Babadaba, Dambugu, Kebbi State and Dankargo, and Eka in Kastina States were covered.
Also covered by Globacom are Inisha, Iragbiji, Ekoende, Ifetedo, Ode Omu, Olorisa Oko Ikire, Ibokun, Imesilde (Osun), Ijan, Iluomoba, Ayedun, Oke-Imesi, Ilawe-Ado Road, Afao, Ijero and Ijesa Isu (Ekiti), Apirr, Igbor, Jato-Aka and Adumoko in Benue State.
In Bauchi State, towns such as Tafawa-Balewa, Gital, Bogoro, Nabordo, Iakadangiwa, Toro, Kafin Maigari, Kirfi and Itas Gadan were also covered in the new Globacom roll out while in Imo State, Ngor-Okpala, Obeakpu – Egbema, Ofoiyi Amuro, Izombe, Umana now have Glo network.
Iguobazua, Egoro – Amede (Edo), Nise, Agulu, Nibo (Anambra) Odolowu, Keju, Ijegun (Ogun), Tungameri, Nugbe, Karati, Alegongo, Ndenaku (Kwara) Gidan Lange, Gana (Jigawa and Kwana – Durmawa (Kano) were also covered.
Other towns covered by the network include Ogbagi Akoko, Arigidi Akoko, Iwaro Akoko, Ilaramokin, Bamikemo, Okegbo, Oke-Oka Akoko, Oke – Isale Akoko, Oba Akoko, Owo – Ikare Road, Oyin Akoko, Oke Agbe Akoko (Ondo), Nasko, Salka, Ndayaku, Zugruma (Niger), Kasuwan – Magani, Kajuru (Kaduna), Odo-Ere, Odo-Eri, Abejukoro, Odolu (Kogi), Okpoama (Bayelsa), Okotu (Enugu) Akamkpa (Cross River), Gidan.
