It was fun and laughter all the way in different homes across Nigeria on Tuesday night as the trio of Nigeria Television Authority (NTA Network), NTA International and Startimes kicked-off the broadcast of a new TV drama series, Professor Johnbull, sponsored by grand masters of data, Globacom.
The programme which left many Nigerians reeling with laughter was aired on the three stations at 8.30 pm. The original episodes will run on Tuesdays while the repeat episodes run at the same time on Fridays.
Titled the “Claimant”, the episode revolved around the impersonation of the koko master, D’banj by Makuachukwu Ilodibe, who succeeded in deceiving many people including the revered Professor Johnbull. On discovering the deceit, Professor Johnbull condemned the impersonation of top celebrities, infamously known as“419” by misguided individuals in the society .
Professor Johnbull acted by Kanayo O.Kanayo of Nollywood fame was eating at a restaurant run by Olaniyi (Yomi Fash Lanso) when he was introduced to the fake D’banj and the Professor criticized his choice of name ‘koko’ which he misinterpreted for ‘cocoa’ and suggested better names but the fake D’banj defended his choice and went further to mention names of some stars in the country in support of his argument.
Apparently, surprised by his response, the erudite Professor immediately challenged him to a debate, saying “ bring it on, argument is my comfortable zone”, as he stopped devouring his nkwobi and washed his hand in readiness for an intellectual debate. Olaniyi quickly cautioned fake D’ banj who backed out and earned an invitation to Professor Johnbull’s house for his chivalry.
The true identity of Ilodibe was revealed when he met his former school mate, Churchill, Professor Johnbull’s engineer son, who gave him a beating for lying as he was fond of doing in their school days. Olaniyi also joined in punishing the impostor for deceiving him by eating free food along with his two friends.
Olaniyi’s biggest concern was how he would recover his money for the free food the three trick stars ate at his restaurant. Professor Johnbull condemned the deceit out rightly and dwelled extensively on the repercussions of impersonation.
The maiden episode had opened with Mercy Johnson-Okogie who acted as Caro, the semi- literate house girl being tongue lashed by Professor Johnbull for claiming to perform magic when she turned the letter “p” written on a newspaper upside down to change to “d”. The Professor said: “I have been cohabiting with the very witch of Endor herself”.
Next was the entry of Churchill, Professor Johnbull’s son clutching a newspaper and delightfully informing the people that D’banj will be performing in Enugu, their location. This was followed by the scene where the impostor and his two friends arrived Olaniyi’s restaurant to get the best amala in town.
The episode also featured a scene where ladies were scrambling to take ‘selfies with fake D’banj and another scene where one of them informed Original, played by Ogus Baba, of her plan to upload the photos she took with “D’banj” on Social media.
Exclusively produced by Globacom, Professor Johnbull is a star studded television comedy drama series featuring top nollywood stars including Mama G, Helen Paul Mercy, Johnson-Okogie and Ime Bishop Okon. Others are Queen Nwokoye, Bovi, Chiwetalu Agu, and O.C. Ukeje.
