Ibrahim Dasuki S. Nakande, former minister of State for Information and Communications is one of casualties of the long awaited federal cabinet reshuffle.
The news came as something of a shock to the industry, which had watched Nakande play a conspicuous role in the telecommunications transformation in line with global best practices.
As a minister, Nakande was thorough and provided Nigerians with credible and timely information on government activities, programmes and initiatives; while creating an enabling technological environment for socio-economic development of the nation.
He was never afraid to call a spade by its name because his early life prepared him for leadership having being born in Jos, Plateau State of Nigeria on August 15, 1955.
Nakande, attended Primary School in Jos, the Gyel Commercial College in Bukuru and the Kaduna Polytechnic from 1974 - 1980.
He is also an alumni member of the Lagos Business School, a member of the Chartered Institute of Administration and an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management.
Nakande has had varied working experience and had held several important positions, in industry, in Local Government and at the Federal Government level in Nigeria.
Some of such positions are: secretary, Jos North Local Government (1991 - 1993), territorial manager (Lagos Island) Nigerian Telecommunication Limited (Nitel) (1997 - 2000), deputy general manager (Human Resources) (Nitel) (2000).
Nakande’s name may not have a high recognition factor among telecommunications operations, but he is a first point of call for many Nigerians who want to make sense of what is really happening to the industry.
He is keen at supporting initiatives that hold promises for information technology development in the country.
The former minister is also one of the first to blow the whistle on the damage being done to Nigerians by the deteriorating services rendered by telecom operators.
In his brief watch as junior minister in Information and Communications ministry, Nakande, made extraordinary contributions to the advancement of industry.
His tenure was guided by vision and propelled by purpose.
Well done Nakande.
Good Job Nakande
