Google Steps Up Social Networking with Google+
Over 250 Nigerian celebrities and influencers from different spheres of engagement: Creative Artists, Event Planners, Fashion Influencers, Developmental Advocates, Media Celebrities and Music Enthusiasts, were invited to explore google.com/+ and become users of Google+ at the Google+ Hub event held last week in Lagos. On arrival, guests took fun photos in the Google+ photo booth and visited the Google+ demo stations to get a quick insight into what was ahead. Commenting on the event, Juliet Ehimuan, Country Manager said that the Google + Hub event would help celebrities learn about Google+. She added that the idea was to give Nigerian celebrities, social influencers and content creators a unique and in-depth look at all the features on Google+. According to Affiong Osuchukwu, Country Marketing Manager at Google, the aim of the G+ Hub event was to create an avenue for inspiring Nigerian celebs and influencers to use it to help them connect with their friends, colleagues and followers and promote their interests, brands and activities. The main workshop was an in-depth Google+ presentation and live hangout demo by the Google+ team, to show the communities how relevant Google+ is to them in both their personal and professional lives. Lanre Aina, Business Development manager at Google in his presentation said Google + features ensure that connecting on the web is more like connecting in real life as it is more about individuals. “Google+ is a content sharing social platform built by Google to provide a better and more relevant overall user experience across the web.” He said Google rewards social interaction across the web, adding that Google+ has had over 200 feature update since launch in 2011 and “we are working day-in day out on integrating it across all Google’s products and services. Google+ features include Post, Circles, Hangout, +1, ripples and Search plus your world. The session rounded off with hands-on time for guests to practice what they had just learnt and the opportunity to leave with plenty of Google+ goodies after joining hangouts with each other, posting on their profiles, adding friends to circles and using Google+ SMS. Attendees were able to learn about the bells of Google+ and ideas on exciting things that they can do with their fans. This Lagos G+ hub is the latest in a series of G+ Hub event being held across Africa to help celebrities and influencers better understand Google+.
