Google to Increase Local Internet Traffic with Cache

Google, Internet content giant, has begun moves to increase local internet traffic with the domiciling of its Cache in the country, Nigeria CommunicationsWeek can now reveal.
Google Cache shows a page like it was when Google last crawled it successfully. Google doesn’t store images, scripts and other embedded objects, but it tries to retrieve them from their original location and stores it in its cache. If the page is down, most of the external resources won’t be accessible and the page will load slowly.
Oftentimes, pages load much faster from Google Cache and it’s easier to spot ones keywords as they are highlighted by Google.
Nigeria CommunicationsWeek investigations revealed that Google has concluded discussion with Nigeria Internet Exchange Point to hoist the Cache with it specifically for YouTube video as well as route its Nigeria traffic via the exchange.
Mr. Mohammed Rudman, managing director, Nigeria Internet Exchange Point, exclusively told Nigeria CommunicationsWeek that the Cache will be basically for video search which when demanded by internet users will be sourced by Google network and domicile in the Cache in the country for other user who may demand for the same video.
He added that the Cache will enhance fast and easy download of video on networks that are connected to the exchange as well as ensure that local traffic are increased.
It would be recalled that IXPN before now was faced with the challenge of apathy by major internet service providers who were reluctant to route their traffic via the exchange.
