Governor Charges FRCN on Programming

Gabriel Suswam, Benue State governor has charged the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), to redefine its programming, emphasizing on education, information and communication technology; with less concentration on entertainment and reportage of bickering.
This he said at the just concluded Second National Programme Planning Conference of FRCN in Makurdi. Suswam, who was represented by Nntol Unongo, state commissioner for Information and Culture, disclosed that his administration has commenced a process of re-engineering socio-economic development and rehabilitation of structures in urban and rural areas.
He informed that government has improved facilities at Radio Benue Makurdi, while efforts are being re-doubled at completing work on Benue State Television station and improving operations of Benue Printing and Publishing Corporation.
Suswam described FRCN as a distinct radio station, which has contributed immensely in the entrenchment of democracy, peace and unity in the country and urged it to continue to germinate ideas for more results. He expressed displeasure at some media organizations which undermine good governance by indulging in unethical and unprofessional practices through deliberate distortion of facts to misinform and create mischief.
In a speech, Odeh who was represented by Samson Shuaibu, director of Training, FRCN, called on participants to adopt more creative ways of producing programmes that would attract a wider audience, stressing that the survival of the Corporation depend on the support of the ordinary citizens and groups.
Speaking on the expectations from the conference, Ademola Afolabi, acting director of News and Zakari Mohammed, deputy director of programmes, both of FRCN Abuja headquarters said the conference was an avenue for producers, reporters, marketers and support staff, to brainstorm in order to improve quality of programmes and content of news.
