Harris Stratex Networks Nigeria has been honoured with the prestigious “Beacon of WiMax” in recognition of her role in the sweeping telecommunications revolution in the country.
The Beacon of WiMax award is highest award in the ICT industry and has been instituted by Nigeria CommunicationsWeek, foremost ICT newspaper and awarded to individuals and companies who have contributed in no small measures to the development of ICT in Nigeria
Harris Stratex Networks was recognized for accelerating the momentum to full-on 4G wireless broadband.
The award was presented to Tadesse Bekele, sales director, Harris Stratex Nigeria in Lagos at impressive ceremony witnessed by top government functionaries, cream of the ICT industry as well as captains of the financial sector.
Gbenga Adebayo, chairman, Association of Licensed Telecom Companies of Nigeria (Alton) and Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, president, Association of Telecom Companies of Nigeria (Atcon) and Ken Nwogbo, editor, Nigeria CommunicationsWeek, handed the award to Bekele.
In a brief remark, Nwogbo said that the Harris Stratex Networks Nigeria has kept faith with the burgeoning telecom revolution and that her footprints can be seen in nearly all network service providers in Nigeria.
He singled out the company’s StarMax portfolio of WiMAX Forum Certified wireless broadband access products and said that the solution enables operators to gain market advantage by rapidly delivering broadband residential and business services to areas underserved—or not served at all—by existing telecom infrastructure today.
“ The award is for Harris Stratex but more for her StarMax, which we see as a key part of the company’s comprehensive end-to-end network solution, which also includes wireless backhaul, core network elements and umbrella network management and service assurance.” Nwogbo added
While commenting on the award, Bekele commended the healthy growth in the telecom industry and urged Nigerians to brace up for even profound revolution which he said will be anchored on WiMax.
According to him, the wireless revolution has potentials to “cheetah-pole vault” Nigeria into one of the top economies of the world.
Bekele also spoke about the company’s energy and security solution which dramatically enhances the energy efficiency and physical security of remote telecommunications sites, lowering the overall cost of maintaining site operations.
He said that these solutions include an innovative combination of hybrid power sources (grid and off-grid), intelligent power and cooling management, local and remote access control and other state-of-the-art features, all contained in a single drop-in enclosure that can be deployed for new sites or as an overlay for an existing network.
