There’s this new show on television that’s the rave of the moment right now. It’s called ‘How to Get Away with Murder’. It’s a really amazing show; drama, intrigue and a whole lot of suspense. It’s a great show really; you should try it.
Anyway, back to the matter.
French mobile phone giant, Wiko Mobile has unveiled a new device that reiterates this company’s market strategy. I mean, when these guys say ‘premium device at a lower cost’, they really aren’t joking.
The phone is called the Wiko Getaway and is positioned as ‘style and performance you’d be proud to show off’.
I can say right off the bat that this IS a phone to be proud of; more on style and performance in the following paragraphs.
Packaging:
The device comes securely packaged in a see-through fibre-glass container; definitely a step up from the very basic hard-paper packaging that a lot of other phones come in, including some of their older models.
A sticker which captures a few of the phone specs, runs across the bottom and on the back.
What’s In The Box?
– One Wiko Getaway smartphone
– One pair of earphones
– Tangle-proof charging cable
– Wall adapter
– Three SIM card adapters
– Sim-tray opener
– Manual
– Warranty booklet
Hardware: Look And Feel
This phone is definitely stylish. Not to throw shade at any of the other smartphone manufacturers but this phone comes with a lot of the hardware features that the more expensive brands boast of; Aluminum bezel, textured mock-leather back casing, thinness (7.2mm), lightness (133g) and a beautiful IPS display.
A Gorilla glass screen means it is completely scratch-proof.
It also comes with dual-SIM slots, a 13 megapixel back camera and 5 megapixels on the front, which are both fantastic.
I’d have to do a whole other review of just the camera and its features.
Three capacitive touch buttons line the bottom of the device just above the beautiful rose-gold metal front bezel.
The overall look is simply beautiful look at; I can just imagine what a white and gold version would look like.
Another thing I love about the hardware is the location of the volume rockers; it makes for much easier access considering it’s a rather large and long device.
With the Rainbow and a lot of other phones that have the volume rockers closer to the top, you’d have to constantly move your hand up and down to adjust the volume or engage the use of the second hand; quite the inconvenience if you’re a seasoned one-hander.
Software:
Although the phone doesn’t have that many distinctive features, it’s a pleasant enough experience software-wise.
It comes loaded with stock Android which means the UI isn’t customized at all so if you’re not a fan of stock android, you should consider downloading a launcher on the Google Playstore (I’m a huge fan of Go Launcher).
On speed and fluidity, the 1.3GHz quad-core processor performs beautifully.
There’s been no lag so far and apps run super-smooth.
Battery life is AMAZING. The phone comes with a non-removable battery which is known to last longer.
One charge lasts me about 20 hours running on Wi-Fi and with email and a number of apps in full use.

Comparison:
I did a quick side-by-side with an earlier model, the Wiko Rainbow which I currently use alongside my Blackberry (after upgrading from the Bloom).
The Rainbow is definitely heavier and slightly bigger/thicker. As for display quality; the difference is very clear.

It’s a really amazing device; classy, lightweight and a whole lot of premium. It’s a great phone really; you should buy it. And the tip is: Order on Jumia for an extra 5% off.
