Huawei on Thursday announced the successful completion of a three Component Carrier Aggregation (3CCA) connectivity test with download speeds reaching up to 300 Mbps.

This test, Huawei stated on its website, was jointly completed with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. (QTI), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated.

The test utilized the leading SingleRAN equipment available from Huawei and a device featuring a Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 810 processor, a product of QTI.

The Snapdragon 810 processor is the first commercially announced premium-tier processor featuring both a fully integrated 64-bit multicore CPU and LTE-Advanced 3CCA.

As a positive milestone for a successful 3CCA commercialization, the results are evidence of the important interoperability between Huawei’s LTE-A 3 Component Carrier Aggregation solution and the Snapdragon 810 processor.

A peak download speed of up to 300 Mbps was made possible (Cat 6 peak download throughput) with 3 carrier support from 40 to 60MHz wideband carrier aggregation.

As a key LTE-Advanced technology, Carrier Aggregation allows for full utilization of operators’ spectrum resources.

Three Component Carrier Aggregation empowers operators to provide faster mobile broadband experiences, including video conferencing, high-definition content transmission, high-speed video downloads, social networking, and more.

Since the world’s first 3 Component Carrier Aggregation commercial network test was conducted last June, by Huawei and LG Uplus in South Korea, more leading operators will begin technology tests and commercial trials.

These tests indicate that 3CCA will be commercial once devices are available to support 3 Carrier Aggregation.

WangJun, president of Huawei LTE FDD Wireless Networks, said: "The successful test marks an important step for 3 Component Carrier aggregation commercialization. We will continue to invest in cutting-edge technologies and work closely with industry collaborators to promote the development of mobile broadband around the world."
