IDC an IT and telecom research company recently organized a roadshow addressing security beaches in the IT sector of the economy.
Dhiraj Daryani, research analyst, software, IDC UAE in his presentation emphasized that “increased mobile device proliferation will leave organizations vulnerable to the risk of threats and data leakage without proper policies and management tools”.
He noted that increasing number of threats on IT security will ensure increased spending by organizations despite the global recession.
Solomon Baba, sales consulting manager, Oracle identified the need to reduce enterprise exposure to security risk, how to help the organization save cost and how to make money for the organization as the three top security issues that keeps CISO up at night.
Solomon’[s panacea for blocking security loopholes are using single username and password, automating protection of sensitive information and enforcing separation of duty.
In his presentation on cost saving security strategies, Akin Akinwolere, technology specialist, Microsoft Nigeria said IT security should be as natural as putting on clothes to protect one’s privacy as well as remain competitive.
Willem Malan, technical director BUI said maintaining regulatory compliance, safekeeping customers’ data, ensuring internal security policies and protecting corporate intellectual property are the broadest of information security challenges.
Charles Somorin, Head IT, Cadbury advised the IT managers to be wise in their choice of service providers and clearly identify contractual terms to get business continuity right by insisting on robust standard enabling federation.
