Intel Gets Commendation for ICT Innovation

Intel Corporation, leading chip maker, has been honored by the Rotary Club, Lekki Phase 1 chapter for contributions towards the expansion of information technology growth and expansion within and outside the Rotary Club movement in Nigeria.

The event held in Lagos on Wednesday and witnessed encomiums being heaped on the corporation.

Mr. Kayode Aderinokun, President of the club, explained that Intel Corporation has constantly demonstrated an enviable commitment to improving the general wellbeing and education of students as well as women empowerment in the field of information technology.

He added that Rotary Club Lekki Phase 1 is a beneficiary of the corporation’s support which necessitated the award.

“The club has come up with several initiatives to support and encourage students in their quest for knowledge. Last month, Intel Corporation donated some classmate PC, Intel’s proprietary customized learning tool to support the Club’s programmes in the Educational sector. This has helped in expanding the computer appreciation classes which we established for pupils under tough conditions,”  Aderiokun said.

He further stressed that the club recently set up a fully air-conditioned library and Information Communication and Technology Centre where less privileged pupils studied acquire ICT knowledge.

“We have created and operated a computer appreciation class for the pupils under tough conditions and minimal space. We purchased a 40ft air-conditioned container to create more space and expand computer education in the school library,” he noted, adding that “Rotary Club of Nigeria, Lekki Phase 1 Chapter has been involved with several initiatives to ensure that young people have a decent understanding of information and Communication technologies which can be used to their advantage.”

Speaking on the initiative, Adim Isiakpona, Public Relations and marketing manager, Intel West Africa, explained that Intel is committed to the growth and development of the technology sector in Nigeria and is pleased to spot opportunities such as this, latch on to it and contribute to it as a way of giving back to the community in which it operates.

“For us at Intel, championing the cause of technology in Nigeria, Africa and the world is at the heart of our business and this has informed our engagements from inception till date. Intel, more than being interested in propagating the gospel of technology, is interested in the quality it brings to life if properly employed,” Isiakpona stated.

He explained further that the computer education initiatives arose from members of Rotary Club of Lekki Phase 1, realizing that a computer education is a great legacy to give young people, especially those that lack the access to such.

He added that providing pupils with decent and sustainable computer education is one of the ways the club deems important to support the development of the school and its pupils, and that it is a cause that Intel Corporation has been committed  to for many years.
