Intel, Others Collaborate on Affordable Laptop for Teachers

Intel Corporation has collaborated with Digital Konsult (DCK) and Airtel Nigeria to help teachers in Lagos State own personal laptops.

This is in a bid to help teachers increase their knowledge base, improve their teaching skills and help students learn better and faster. The laptops will come with free 200 MB of data bundle for the first five months.

The project, an initiative of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) Lagos State chapter aligns with the objectives of Intel Corporation’s ‘Create Your Tomorrow’ campaign.

The campaign seeks to help consumers unlock their potentials and develop their information Communication Technology skills. Besides, it affords them the opportunity to own personal computers at convenient payment terms that suit their status.

Speaking on the initiative, Stanley Muoneke, Business Development manager, Intel West Africa, explained that the project was in line with Intel’s mission to create and extend computing technology so as connect and enrich the lives of people around the globe.

“At Intel, we understand the importance of technology and how it can enrich the people especially in the area of education which is why we are creating opportunities for people to own computers and to also train them on how to use it to reach their full potentials”.


He stressed that: “We believe technology can be a very useful tool in the educational sector. It gives people more access to information that could expand their knowledge base. For us at Intel, education is not only about the students but also about the teachers and the content they teach students. We are committed to contributing to the growth of the Nigerian educational system through the use of technology, this is why will continue to explore every opportunity available so that we can provide the necessary materials and training to help students and teachers improve in order that they can be seen at their best both nationally and internationally.”

In his opening remarks, Comrade Adesegun Raheem, State chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, Lagos State, commended the efforts of Intel and other partners for their efforts to ensure that teachers in the state are empowered with what it takes to develop their skills and impact positively and effectively in the lives of their students.
He noted that advancement in technology has sparked a lot of changes in the educational sector which teachers have to be at pace with so that they could maintain their respect as professionals.

“We appreciate Intel Corporation, DCK and Airtel for organizing a workshop like this for teachers in Lagos State. Opportunities like this would help to transform teaching methods in our schools. Teachers no longer have to depend on lesson notes that were prepared several years ago for various set of students, now they can go on the internet to source for materials and upgrade their lesson notes with information that would make their teach more current. I encourage teachers in all schools to take advantage of this great opportunity so that we can all see the Nigerian educational sector move up to the next level” he stated.
