InterSat Brings Direct to Home Internet to the Nigerian Market

InterSat has announced the release of Astra2Connect satellite internet into the Nigerian market.
Astra2Connect is a direct to home (DTH) internet product specifically designed for homes, schools and the SME market. It is a new generation two-way satellite broadband that enables an always-on high speed internet access, regardless of geographical location.
The service is a solar based remote internet kiosk designed to provide good quality surfing experience with adequate high speed and also a simple to install and use satellite internet with low cost subscriber equipment at a monthly flat rate.
InterSat signed a deal with Astra Broadband Services for East and Central Africa, West Africa and the Middle East and had commenced sales in East and Central Africa and is commencing sales in West Africa, with Nigeria as its first point of call.
Azfer Nazir, Chief Operations Officer, InterSat UK Limited said: Nigeria was chosen as the first country in West Africa where the product will be sold because of the “country’s population, its growth rate and GDP which shows Nigeria as a fast moving country.
He said the product is Astra2Connect from Astra Broadband Services in Luxembourg which has recorded huge success in Europe with 80,000 users in its three years of existence.
“Astra has taken it upon itself to train appointed distributors in Nigeria on the technology for them to be able to support the product here in Nigeria,” Nazir said.
The product will be sold to end users via distributors and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) who can either address customers directly through resellers and agents.
Astra2Connect standard end user equipment is a 100cm satellite dish, receive/transmit interactive LNB, satellite modem with plug and play ethernet interface and IP bridge and a point and play installation tool.
