Interswitch has announced that it is deploying Gemalto’s complete Ezio Strong authentication solution to secure e-payment services in Nigeria.
With Gemalto’s scalable solution, Interswitch enables banking customers to perform secure e-transactions using either their EMV card and reader or a token.
Ezio enables Interswitch member banks to enhance security for e-commerce by replacing static passwords with strong authentication. Users can pay their bills and taxes or buy airline tickets in a more secure and convenient manner by authenticating themselves with a One-Time-Password using the device. They can also access online banking services such as fund transfer with increased security.
“We launched our EMV migration programme with Gemalto and the company has proven a reliable partner,” said Mitchell Elegbe, MD/CEO, Interswitch. “This success has contributed to creating a strong business relationship and this is why we have selected Gemalto for our strong authentication programme.”
Jacques Seneca, executive vice president of the Security Business Unit for Gemalto said “Gemalto is proud to supply Interswitch with easy-to-use, end-to-end solution that enables users to buy and sell over the Internet, confident that their personal details are private and protected. With our scalable solution, users get the device that is perfectly tailored to their needs.”
Interswitch is already deploying Gemalto’s Dexxis Instant Issuance solution to accelerate chip migration in Nigeria.  The solution enables Interswitch member banks to carry out on-the-spot personalization and delivery of chip cards to their customers, directly at their branches. With this, bank customers leave the branch with their card in hand and start using it immediately, compared to an average of two weeks’ timeline with conventional issuance. This means that all the cards delivered are actually used, making the investment fully productive for all stakeholders.
As part of the contract, Gemalto supplies the software that allows Interswitch to offer the instant issuance service to its member banks. It also enables Interswitch to provide the banks with a turnkey solution to perform instant issuance themselves.

The Biggest Cost of Nigeria’s Crypto Stamp Duty Not 1.5%, But What Happens Next

By Chike Onwuegbuchi17 Aug 2026

There is a strange thing about regulation: everybody wants clarity until clarity comes with a bill. Given that is probably why the conversation around Nigeria’s proposed 1.5% stamp duty on virtual asset transactions has quickly become a debate about the number. Is 1.5% too much? Will it make crypto more expensive? Will users simply move elsewhere?
