ITU Telecom World 2016, the leading UN global technology event, will take place this year in Bangkok, Thailand, from 14 to 17 November 2016.
The focus will be on the most effective ways to grow our digital ecosystem and the key role SMEs play in the process.
ITU Telecom World 2016 combines a global technology exhibition, a forum for sharing knowledge, a networking hub for corporates, governments and SMEs and a prestigious Awards programme.
It provides a unique international platform bringing together developed and emerging markets, public and private sector leaders, and industry representatives from across the entire ICT ecosystem.
“By emphasizing the importance of collaboration throughout the digital economy, ITU Telecom World 2016 will highlight the roles of multiple stakeholders from government and industry, including the small and medium businesses that are key to driving innovation and ensuring sustainable, inclusive economic growth,” said ITU Secretary-General Houlin Zhao.
“Holding this event in Bangkok adds value, as the city is at the centre of a fast-growing digital economy and is an important strategic gateway to the ASEAN countries and the wider South East Asian region.”
The exhibition will showcase digital solutions and investment opportunities from nations, regions, organizations and companies and include both emerging and developed markets.
It will focus on bringing high-growth SMEs, particularly from emerging markets, to the international stage.
A world-class programme of interactive forum debates will address the issues defining the ICT industry today on the theme of “Collaborating in the Digital Economy”.
Expert speakers will explore new partnerships and new opportunities in the digital economy, including establishing meaningful and affordable universal access, working together on new technologies such as 5G and the Internet of Things, and how the ICT sector can make a business case for meeting the UN sustainable development goals.
The ITU Telecom World Awards will recognize excellence and innovation in ICT solutions with social impact from SMEs and corporates alike. Targeted networking opportunities, events and tools will connect SMEs with ministers, regulators, industry CEOs, UN organizations, consultants, entrepreneurs, media and academia.
