The Lagos State University has inked an agreement with major ICT power houses including Hewlett Packard, Microsoft and Cisco that will see the establishment of a software institute on campus, Nigeria CommunicationsWeek can now reveal.
The institute will promote science, art, and practice of software engineering while exploiting scientific discoveries for the benefit of Nigeria.
Professor Tunde Fatunde, chairman ICT Lasu confirmed the development already hailed as a major step in the country’s quest to upskill its ICT manpower.
Already the university community is working to raise the level of awareness for software development in Nigeria as well as to impart global competitiveness to Lasu.
Nigeria CommunicationsWeek learnt that the software institute will provide training and skills acquisition in certificate courses such as Oracle: OCA, OCP Linux and UNIX, Microsoft: MCP, MCDBA, MCSD, JAVA: SCJP, SCJD, web programming : Certified  Internet webmaster, among others.  Its executive learning schedule will cover courses in IT management, computer appreciation for executives and IT operations management while four categories of training have been planned for four hundred students expected to commence the training programme.
Lasu is long reputed for its ICT initiative and has has WiFi internet connection powered by ICSL that covers 50 Klm radius of the institution serving its campuses at Epe, and Surulere and while Ikeja is to be added soon.
