Lagos State University (Lasu) has spent so much on Information Communication Technology (ICT) in terms of computer acquisition and accessories; networking on campus and internet facilities and everything put together. Professor Tunde Fatunde revealed to Nigeria CommunicationsWeek that the institution has spent over N140 million in that regard. He spoke on some of the ICT efforts thus: "we are going to network Epe campus very soon. We are going to network for internet facilities and services at our Surulere campus and we are about to finish networking the entire campus in order to start the outside campuses so that everybody will have internet services." He said that ICT has a roadmap for Lasu which was developed before the ICT committee which he heads started implementing the roadmap. The Lasu ICT roadmap written by the ICT team in close collaboration with graduating students of the Faculty of Engineering, Epe Campus was based on three cardinal principles which are training, research and rendering of service to the University community. Within few years, the ICT committee started implementing the roadmap; e-solutions have taken over such duties formerly done manually. If you pay a visit to the university, you will begin to hear about e-registration, e-administration, e-exams, e-results and e-screening. In all these innovations, Fatunde said that the university did not contract anybody to do the work. In the area of research, he said the school is constantly undertaking research especially in the area of software development and hinted that the Institute of Software will be established soon under the Public Private Partnership, at the campus; saying that the syllabus has been completed. Fatunde said this is development in the sense that they are training their students. The institute when it comes on board according to him will train programmers who can develop software and applications. The school is also into the process of affecting a Memorandum of Understanding with D-Link, a global leader in network business to establish an academy on campus.
