The Lagos State Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), the premier chamber of commerce in Nigeria founded in 1888, has officially inaugurated its 2017 Information Communication Technology Expo (ICTEL EXPO).

The Expo with the theme, “The Digital Economy-Strategies for Growth in a Connected World” will provide a platform that unites all players in the Nigerian Information & Communication Technology sector towards a greater contribution of ICT to national economic development.

Speaking at the ceremony in Lagos on Thursday, Dr. (Mrs.) Nike Akande, LCCI’s president affirmed that the Information & Communication Technology sector has continued to drive entrepreneurship, innovation and sustainable business models in Nigeria and beyond.

“Technology-backed service delivery and mobile payment solutions”, Dr. Akande said, “have transformed the way we do business today. The ICTEL Expo is a veritable platform to explore new technology possibilities and trends.

“The ICT sector can contribute more to our national development if the needed infrastructure and policies are in place. We urge the government and private sector to consider the model of Public-Private-Partnership to mobilize needed investments for necessary and critical infrastructure with government providing a conducive policy environment where ICT business can thrive”.

She also extended LCCI’s appreciation to various partners, sponsors and exhibitors whose contributions have sustained the Expo “and we look forward to more support for the 2017 ICTEL EXPO which has been scheduled for 25th to 27th of July, 2017 at the Eko Hotel and Suites”.

On his part, Mr. Sola Oyetayo, chairman, Trade Promotion Board, LCCI, said that the three-day Expo offers information, inspiration, innovation, optimal brand exposure and a platform for diverse business and investment opportunities.

Mr. Oyetayo said that there will also be conferences to address the current trends in the ICT sector and an overview of government policies and how business has been impacted by these policies.

“Best practices in ICT regulations would also form a critical part of the discourse at the various scheduled side-events during the EXPO”, he added.

The ICTEL EXPO is a specialized annual exhibition organised by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry with the full endorsement and collaboration of the Federal Ministry of Communication Technology, the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Lagos State Ministry of Science and Technology, Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC), and the Nigerian Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA),

Others are, Computer Society of Nigeria (CON), Nigeria Internet Group, Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), Nigerian Internet Registration Association (NIRA), Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN) and Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPRCN), among others.

“This year’s edition is being packaged to deliver added value to all stakeholders involved in the project. With this unveiling ceremony today, we call on our esteemed partners to commence preparations towards their full participation at the Expo. Negotiations and talks for possible sponsorships and participation have commenced. The march towards a more successful ICTEL EXPO is beginning today and you all are part of this march”, he added.

The Chamber promotes Trade and Industry and also represents the opinion of the business community on matters affecting Trade and Industry of Lagos State and where applicable the whole Federation.
