Linkserve Unveils Blast Broadband

Linkserve Limited, Nigeria’s pioneering Internet Service Provider has launched Blast Broadband, a new product designed to meet the connection needs of homes, small and medium sized businesses.
Blast Broadband based on Viasat’s Surfbeam Broadband System is an integration of the widely-used terrestrial wireless industry technology with the latest in advanced and proven satellite technology. It is a totally new kind of satellite-based system designed expressly for building broadband access networks and very unlike the Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) systems.
Chima Onyekwere OON, chairman Linkserve while addressing journalists at the company’s headquarters said: “The Equipment price is less than 100,000 Naira. This is the first in the region, but we are taking this further. We are starting this deployment by making the equipment (CPE) even much lower at 55,000 Naira for the first 150 subscribers.”
“Service will be delivered using the standard 1.2m and a new development using the .89m antenna. The .89m antenna is designed for just small networks and will cost even less for the subscriber,” he said.
Victor Oisaghie, Linkserve’s managing director said Blast Broadband is a satellite-based technology moulded on Viasat’s Surfbeam. The SurfBeam system is the only all-inclusive networking system designed from to deliver highly scalable, high performance consumer/small-office and small-medium enterprise (SME) broadband services over satellite.
Linkserve made a major capital investment in the Uptime 3 HUB Full redundancy of Surfbeam to ensure the highest uptime available in the market today of 99.99%.  This Hub has capacity to support concurrently over 2 million subscribers, meaning more people can easily be served, Oisaghie said.
The acceleration of the IP traffic within the HUB increases performance and throughput allowing for more bandwidth to be used by a customer while maintaining a lower cost structure. This immediately translates to a huge savings for the end user.
Linkserve partnered with the two world leaders in Satellite communication, Viasat and Intelsat for the mass roll out of Blast Broadband VSAT solution. Intelsat 14 this has a 54.5db over the region. The combination of the Surfbeam made by Viasat Inc and the Satellite of deployment allows for a continuous use of 8PSK even at worst situations.  This high dBW allows for higher availability and guarantees customers a performance of 99.99 percent exceeding present customer expectations.
“Today, Video has become a reality for it to be received through the Internet. The streaming capacity will enable Churches, distance learning, Educational and institutional organization and religious organizations, reach multiple sites at a very affordable costs. The solution also provides a platform for many other exciting features and services for the customers including Voice over IP (VoIP), Direct To Home (DTH), Advanced Quality of Service (QoS), Multicasting and accelerated IP/Web-centric applications,” said Onyekwere.
