MainOne, leading Communications Services Company in West Africa and Cameroun Telecommunications Corporation (CAMTEL), the national telecommunications and Internet service provider in Cameroon, have begun talks to establish a Joint Venture Agreement poised to deepen broadband penetration in the Central African region.

This announcement builds upon the long-standing relationship between MainOne, CAMTEL and Huawei Marine Networks, and the success of the roll-out of the world-class submarine cable network extension, Nigerian Cameroun Submarine Cable System, from MainOne’s Cable Landing Station in Lagos, Nigeria to Kribi, Cameroun, to improve internet access in Cameroun, Chad and other parts of Central Africa.

The joint venture, Nigeria CommunicationsWeek gathered on Thursday will create about10,000 ‎indirect jobs during the process of execution.

Speaking during its courtesy visit to MainOne’s Lagos offices, David Nkoto Emane,  CAMTEL’s director general, who led the delegation, highlighted its company’s expansion efforts to boost Cameroun’s low broadband penetration and stressed its poise to emerge Central Africa’s major bandwidth hub and internationally to Europe and beyond.

‎In her welcome, Funke Opeke,‎ MainOne’s chief executive officer, reiterated the company’s vision for a connected West Africa: “MainOne supports initiatives to expedite the penetration of reliable and affordable broadband internet services in the West African region, aimed at increased economic development and business growth.

"We have, and will continue to invest significantly in attempts to induce accelerated broadband access, which is part of our strategy to boost the economic and commercial development of West Africa.”
