The first call on Megatech Networks, Kano state based telecom provider will made by the end of this month signaling the entry of the former internet service providers into Nigeria’s lucrative telecom market, Nigeria CommunicationsWeek has learnt.
Services are expected to be launched commercially before mid-2009 on the much sought after 3.5GHz frequency which guarantees high quality voice and high speed internet access.
Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar, chairman of the company, said: ‘Megatech will deploy high quality mobile, voice and data services nationwide. We have already signed the contract with ZTE”
Already the company plans to invest some N500 million in its CDMA network that will have coverage in 23 state across Nigeria.
Megatech has also received a Unified Access License from the Nigerian Communications Commission, which includes support for 3G services.
A unified license gives an operator the freedom to offer mobile, fixed and any other telecommunications service to its subscribers, while 3G is the third generation of tele standards and technology for mobile networking, which enables network operators to offer users a wider range of more advanced services while achieving greater network capacity through improved spectra efficiency.
