Microsoft will be the Hackathon and Business Intelligence Analytics Partner of the Big Data Show.
Microsoft will, at Show which holds at Dubai World Trade Centre, from March 29th-31st, 2016, have a stand, carry out workshops, host a hackathon, and share insights during the conference sessions in the other exhibitions.
About 30 years ago, most of the world's data was in books. This changed to cassette tapes, then to CDs, to DVDs, and now PCs and devices, along with the cloud, which has become the dominant medium for storing data.
The digital universe will double every two years between now and 2020, reaching 40 zettabytes (ZB) by 2020.
40 ZB is equal to 57 times the amount of all the grains of sand on all the beaches on earth.
Approximately 5,247 GB of data for every man, woman and child on earth in 2020.
A major factor behind the expansion of the digital universe is the growth of machine generated data, increasing from 11% of the digital universe in 2005, to over 40% in 2020.
IoT and connected devices will drive a gigantic increase in the available data.
Even the International Data Corporation (IDC) Digital Universe study, “Big Data, Bigger Digital Shadows, and Biggest Growth in the Far East” believes that much of the digital universe is unprotected. We estimate about a third of the data in the digital universe requires some type of protection - to protect privacy, adhere to regulations, or prevent digital snooping or theft. However, currently, only about 20% of the digital universe actually has these protections.
Microsoft said it firmly believes that greater insight can be accessed by turning raw unstructured data into meaningful, intelligent actions.
