It has been revealed that Nokia's former head-office building is to be taken over by Microsoft as part of its deal to buy the company's handset division.
Although just a building, that it was the head-office for Nokia as a group and will soon be occupied by Microsoft will be seen as a significant event in the slow decline of the formerly mightly mobile phone manufacturer.
Nokia has operated in the building since 1997. The 48,000 m2 building, designed by architect Pekka Helin, is located in Keilaniemi, Espoo, Finland.
As it happens, Nokia doesn't own the building any more, having sold it in a lease-back agreement last year for EUR170 million.
Some of Nokia's remaining employees - including management and research teams -- will relocate to Nokia's own premises in Karaportti, Espoo, while others will set up in Otaniemi.
