Prof. Ita Bassey Ewa, minister of Science and Technology, has recommended the use of space technology in mining in Nigeria adding that mining is very crucial to development as it involves the development of raw materials that are very critical and relevant to the energy sector

Speaking when he received a delegation from the Council of Mining Engineers and Geoscientists (COMEG) in his office, recently, Prof. Ewa said that “the support of the mining industry in the energy, raw materials, and development sector makes it relevant to the ministry of science and technology.”

He told the council and mining practitioners to engage the use of space technology, solar technology and reverse engineering, which according to him “have been developed by the ministry and are crucial to the development and growth of the mining sector and the Nigerian Scientists.

The minister also stated the Ministry’s readiness to support professionalism and development in the Mining industry.

He pledged that the ministry will provide support to the council in the enforcement of registration of members and also support the growth of the industry, saying that “our scientists are well exposed and our laboratory facilities are well equipped to have intervention in the council any time it is required.”

Earlier, Mr. Obiora Azubuike, who represented the Chairman of the COMEG, Mr. Chamberlain Oyiboh, requested for the support and partnership of the Ministry saying that “the ministry should allow mining professionals on research activities access to its scientific and research facilities.”
