Board of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has denied that it suspended c, the director-general, as reported by some online media.

The Board said It is a fake news that should be disregarded by the public.

An online version of a newspaper had reported that the Board of NBC suspended the DG, but in a swift reaction by Barrister Salihu Bandele Aluko, a board member, who signed a statement on behalf of the chairman of the board, Alhaji Ikra Aliyu Bilbis, Kawu was not suspended and remains the DG of the NBC.

The statement made available to this medium reads: “The Board of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) is shocked that a reputable newspaper like THE SUN, would carry an unfounded, mischievous and irresponsible story that the board has suspended the DG of the NBC, Mal. Is’haq Modibbo Kawu. The mischievous story adduced reason for the purported ‘suspension’ to a non-existent ‘digital switch over crisis. The board of the commission, headed by Alhaji Ikra Aliyu Bilibis, held its quarterly meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday, this week and it neither at any point discuss nor contemplate a so-called ‘suspension’ of the DG, Modibbo Kawu, who also actively participated in the meeting.

“We are sad that the report would quote an unnamed source for such a story when the reporter could have reached the chairman to confirm the veracity or otherwise of the deliberately mischievous and unprofessional report. We are insisting that THE SUN remove the story immediately and offer apologies to the Board of the National Broadcasting Commission.”

Landlords of Alagbaka/Police headquarters area of Akure, the Ondo State capital, have petitioned the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) for siting a Frequency Modulation (FM) station within their domain without recourse to laws guiding its establishment.

A petition written by residents in the area and signed by Tunde Atere, their lawyer, said it was worrisome to them to notice the springing up of a structure and high mast/tower in the neighbourhood without any prior knowledge of landlords in the area.

The area, they said, was originally designed purely as residential, but now having a commercial outlook.

According to Victor Adejimola and Mrs. Veronica Titus, representatives of the Landlords’ Association,  all efforts by the community to know those behind the FM station failed, until the intervention of police.

Residents noticed that the consultant handling the project has not done what he was expected to do before commencing the project, stressing that all procedures were jettisoned even as the project has reached 65 per cent completion.

The landlords said at the public review on the project, the panel’s chairman, Prof. Ayo Olajuyigbe of the Federal University of Technology Akure, (FUTA) faulted the Environmental Impact Assessment document presented by the consultant.

Olajuyigbe and officials of the Ministry of Environment described the documents presented by the consultant as very defective and called for re-presentation.

The landlords said they were not against developmental plans for the community, but maintained that their welfare should be paramount and above individual pecuniary benefits.

They noted that the whole process of the project was faulty, while the consultant handling the project failed to do proper job to prevent future hazards.

The landlords also expressed concern that some affluent individuals were threatening the landlords with ethnic sentiments without considering safety of humankind in the society.
