Home & Networks Mobility business of Motorola has penned a deal with Zain Nigeria to expand its network and perform software upgrades in order to access previously disadvantaged areas in Nigeria that din not have access to mobile coverage.
The multimillion dollar order will enable Zain to expand its coverage, capacity and service quality of its existing GSM network. The project aims to improve coverage and mobile services in rural Nigeria.
“This expansion to rural areas throughout the country will have a positive impact on the economic and social well-being of these communities”, said Alain Sainte-Marie, CEO Zain Nigeria.
The expansion project is due to complete in early 2010, following improvements on the existing GSM network, previously deployed by Motorola to Zain Nigeria.
“The increased network capacity being deployed will advance the way people connect and will positively impact Zain’s future telecommunications offering in Nigeria”, added Raphael Udeogu, director of sales for Central and Sub Saharan Africa, Home & Networks Mobility, Motorola.
Zain and Motorola have existing agreements in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Jordan for several different technologies and service functions.
