MTI Focuses on Energy to Power Co-located Sites

Frank Kirkitie, vice chairman, Mti Plc has said the company; a notable infrastructure provider which is also into power distribution has effectively installed about 14MHZ capacity from PHCN to co-located sites.
Mti-Unitower is positioned to fully combat the issue of incessant epileptic power supply which has been identified as the major handicap of telecommunications companies in Nigeria.
“The job is about synergy, taking advantage of opportunities in building capacities that will move the business forward”, Kirkitie said.
The company is therefore harnessing all areas of power solutions to make sure its sites run hitch free.
Mass Power Integrated Services Limited, a subsidiary of Mti Plc with technical know-how in power generation has been set in motion to address upstream and downstream power generation.
The company is into partnership with Kirlosker and other transformer manufacturing companies to power sites with generators and transformers.
It is also setting up assembling plants that will assemble generating plants even as the company is also looking at alternative power solutions such as solar energy and hybrid solutions.
It would be recalled that Mti Plc signed the first agreement with Span LLC of Miami USA, in June 2008 to constitute management and technical operatorship with knowledge and expertise in co-locating telecom infrastructure for GSM and CDMA operators to run, operate and manage Mti Unitower Network Services Limited on daily basis; investment in the business is slated at $300m over a period of 5 years.
The company had also acquired an infrastructure sharing and co-location license from Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to enable it carry out operations of tower leasing, infrastructure management, asset acquisition and lease back in the telecom infrastructure sector.
