Mobile telecommunications giant, MTN Nigeria has earned ISO 9001:2008 certification for upholding the highest quality standards in its efforts to provide seamless communication to its subscribers. It is the first telecommunications company in Nigeria to achieve this feat.
Similarly, MTN Nigeria’s network and Mr. Karl Toriola, the company’s Chief Technical Officer (CTO), were adjudged the overall best network and CTO in the MTN Group respectively at a recent summit of the company’s Chief Technical/Information Officers from all its 21 operations in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
The ISO 9001 which MTN Nigeria has just attained is the internationally recognized standard for an organization’s internal quality management. It is maintained by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and awarded in Nigeria by the Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON). Companies are subject to rigorous screening to assess the various processes set up internally to ensure the delivery of the best service or product to customers, prior to certification.
“It has been a long and arduous journey, but we are extremely delighted to announce that MTN Nigeria  is the first telecommunications operator in Nigeria to attain ISO9001:2008 certification,” said Ahmad Farroukh, CEO, MTN Nigeria.
According to Farroukh, the certification, which is valid for a period of three years, is a befitting crown for the unrelenting efforts of the staff of the company, especially in the Network Group, who have quietly worked to continuously improve the quality of service available on the network.
“This certification signposts our commitment to providing world-class services to various categories of our esteemed customers,” said Farroukh. He thanked all the staff of the company for their contributions to the attainment of the goal.
MTN Nigeria’s CTO, Toriola, attributed all the achievements to the determination and hard work of his team members as well as the entire staff of the company. He appealed for more support and cooperation so that the company would maintain its winning streak.
The formal presentation of the certificate to top officials of MTN by SON is slated for later this year.
