MTN Addresses Infrastructural Challenges in N/D Communities

MTN, telecommunications giant, has donated a range of infrastructural facilities to four communities in Rivers State to improve their living conditions.
Facilities donated include a 300KVA power transformer, which was installed for Orogbum Community; a modern Town Hall building, donated to Eligbolo Community; water boreholes, donated to Rumuolumeni and Borokiri communities; as well as scholarship scheme, which benefitted 69 students of the state.
Wale Goodluck, Corporate Services Executive, MTN, said the projects are MTN’s contribution to boosting grassroots development and another way of enriching the lives of community dwellers.
According to him, the projects are distinct from, but complementary to the various projects MTN Foundation is implementing across the country in the three critical areas of health, education and economic empowerment.
Performing the commissioning of the various projects, as well as the flag off of the scholarship scheme, Kale Brown, MTN Nigeria Community Relations Coordinator, said the projects were conceived and implemented with the sole aim of making life easier for the people of the communities hosting MTN facilities.
Brown said over 30 communities in the Niger Delta region, as well as the eastern part of the country, have so far benefitted from various projects aimed at tackling major social challenges confronting the communities. They were all exclusively funded by MTN Nigeria and largely implemented by local contractors in order to empower local workforce.
The MTN Community Coordinator urged the various beneficiaries to protect the projects sited in their communities from theft and vandalism so that they can serve the communal purposes for which they have been constructed.
In their various contributions, Chike Nwokekoro, the paramount ruler of Orogbum Community in Ogbunabali, Chief Eugene Ogba, the paramount ruler of Borokiri Community, Okachukwu Herbert, the Community Development Council Chairman, Rumuolumeni Community and Ken Mbata, paramount ruler of Eligbolo Community eulogised MTN for embarking on the projects, which they said would significantly make life easier for the residents of the communities.
They expressed the gratitude of their subjects and assured MTN they would make good use of the facilities. They also called on other companies operating in the state to emulate MTN and contribute their own quota to the development of their host communities.
“We will continue to implement projects like these in furtherance of our commitment to make a positive impact on the lives of our people across the country,” concluded, Goodluck.
