MTN Foundation Invests N2bn to Boost e-Learning

MTN Foundation (MTNF), a project targeted at providing computers and Internet connectivity to public schools in Nigeria and being implemented by SchoolNet Nigeria on behalf of the MTNF, says it has so far expended over N2 billion to support e-learning in various schools through its various ICT-related projects in the country.

Other projects in the education portfolio of the Foundation aimed at boosting e-learning include the MTNF UnversitiesConnect and MTNF/United Nations Children Education Fund (Unicef), a child friendly school initiative.

Speaking on the SchoolsConnect project, Mrs. Amina Oyagbola, executive director, MTN Foundation, said MTN has been able to build digital laboratories in 49 different public secondary schools in 12 states, which include Kaduna , Enugu , Lagos , Kwara, Rivers, Bauchi, Cross River , Ogun, Ekiti , Niger , Imo and the FCT.

She explained that the Foundation has successfully provided over 100,000 students and over 5,000 teachers access to digital learning, while exposing them to modern trends in research and related academic exercise.

According to her, MTNF has built a digital laboratories in each of the beneficiary schools with 21 computer systems and a server, a networkable printer, furniture for the laboratories, very small aperture terminal (Vsat) equipment and Internet connectivity bandwidth subscribed for one year and an array of other IT facilities.
