Global System for Mobile Communications operators in Nigeria will lead the massive investment in Africa estimated at over $50 billion in the next five years, Nigeria Communications-Week has learnt.
The development further attests to Nigeria’s ranking as one of the fastest developing telecommunications markets in the world.
The highest investors will be MTN, Globacom, Zain, Vodacom, Orange and Etisalat according to GSM Association (GSMA) - the universal body for 750 mobile operators in more than 220 countries in Africa, Asia, America and Europe.
Apart from GSM, there would be investments in Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA), which is believed to have a competitive relationship with GSM in the African telecom space.
