MTN Nigeria’s ongoing 2010 World Cup Naira Splash Competition has produced yet another set of millionaires. Thirteen MTN customers who won N2 million each were presented with their cheques at the fifth prize presentation held at Kano Durbar Hotel, Kano on Friday, July 2, 2010. 
Since the competition began, over 80 Nigerians have been made instant millionaires, while a 22-year-old barber, Mordi Julius Kenneth won the monthly star prize of N20m.    Similarly, 120 Nigerians won all-expenses paid trip to South Africa to watch the MTN 2010 World Cup live.
The winners at the prize presentation held in Kano include Pastor Sunday Idoko, Ismaila Yakubu, Adetunji Abiola Shittu, Ranti Okunola, Ajah Emmanuel, Olomiwe Kelvin, Tunde Imode and Isiyaku Bagobiri. Others are James Chukwuemeka, Baba Mustapha, Nnameka Cosmos Umeadi, Sunday Akamnonu and Ebgedina Babalola.
Highly-elated Yakubu, a Nasarawa State-based graduate of Accounting from Nasarawa State University, who has just concluded his National Youth Service programme, could not contain his joy when he received his cheque as he thanked MTN endlessly for transforming him into an instant millionaire and thereby keeping him permanently out of the labour market.
“It was just like a miracle actually but then I worked for it because I kept playing it even in the face of discouraging comments by friends. But today, I am a millionaire and I thank MTN Nigeria for making it happen,” he said, hinting that he would use the money to finance a business idea he had been working on.
The MTN World Cup Naira Splash competition was part of the activities to commemorate the hosting of MTN FIFA World Cup for the first time by an African country. It is aimed at giving Nigerians the opportunity to be part of the historic event and at the same time enrich their lives by providing them a platform to win millions of naira.   
Kola Oyeyemi, general manager, Consumer Marketing, MTN Nigeria expressed delight that the objectives of the competition are being met as many lives have been transformed which is in line with the MTN’s corporate philosophy of touching and enriching lives of Nigerians in more unique ways. “It is a life-changing competition and it is all about fulfilling promises of enriching lives,” he said
He further said that MTN Nigeria is committed to making meaningful impact in the lives of Nigerians. He therefore counselled the winners to invest their money in positive ventures that will enrich and sustain their lives.
Among the dignitaries who graced the prize presentation ceremony was Alhaji Farouk Mohammed Hassan, special adviser to the Kano State Governor on Food and Security matters. He represented the state Tijani Mohammed Gwarzo, deputy governor, . He commended MTN Nigeria for its various initiatives that add value to the economy while handing out the cheques to the winners.
